Feel Your Boobies!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and in honor of all the wonderful women in my life who have been impacted by this horrible disease I would like to stress the importance of Breast Awareness. That's right girls and boys, Juicy Justine is telling you to feel your boobies! Why feel your boobies you ask? Because early detection saves lives! And who doesn't want to save the tatas!

First and foremost - everyone has breasts. That's means you to boys.

Be aware of how your breasts (or your partners) normally look and feel.

Be aware of changes and consult your doctor right away if you notice anything irregular or unusual or anything that has changed recently.

Preform self breast exams regularly. Have your health care practitioner review your technique during your regular visits.

If you have breast implants, you can still give yourself breast exams but may require more guidance from your surgeon.

Before I get into how to give yourself a breast exam I would like to remind you I am not a medical professional. I repeat, JUICY JUSTINE IS NOT A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL. The following advise is not substitute for medical information. You should consult your health care provider regarding the following procedure. I simply believe early detection is crucial in the fight against breast cancer and the first step to early detection is knowing your own body and in this case your own breasts!

Look at your breasts in a mirror in different positions.

Look at the shape, size, color, markings, dimpling of skin, nipples, etc.

Lie down. With one hand behind your head and a pillow under your shoulder, check that breast and armpit with the opposite hand. Make small circular motions with the pads of your 3 inner fingers. Check the other breast the same way with the opposite hand.

Do this monthly about a week before your period. If you notice any changes, consult your doctor immediately.

In addition to Self Breast Exams women over 40 should get a mammogram at least once a year. Some women, including those who have had breast problems, or a family history of breast cancer may want to start getting them younger or more frequently and should discuss these options with their doctor.

Now go feel some boobies! Have fun!
